DevonWay announces Safety Recognition & Rewards extension to ObservationWay™

SAN FRANCISCO — (BUSINESS WIRE) — DevonWay today announced that it teamed with DTE Fermi 2 to establish new methods for recognizing and reinforcing Nuclear Safety Culture principles in day-to-day operations through Fermi 2’s innovative Rewards and Recognition program. The program integrates positive behavior recognition into Fermi 2’s observations software, ObservationWay™ from DevonWay, to reinforce INPO safety behaviors and actions.

In production since November 15, 2011, Fermi 2’s Rewards and Recognition program is proving value by encouraging personnel to recognize and communicate positive behaviors and to strive to continuously improve by logging observations of behaviors that need improvement. The program helps increase acceptance of observations as part of everyday safety culture.

Challenged to implement the new system by year end 2011, DTE turned to DevonWay to get it done. Plant Manager Todd Conner said: “We were eager to implement a more effective employee recognition program in 2011 that directly tied to the Nuclear Safety Culture principles. The system had to be easy to use so that anyone at the plant could highlight commendable behaviors that personnel demonstrated while performing their work. We chose DevonWay to build our Rewards and Recognition software and integrate it with ObservationWay because we knew they could help us reach these goals in our short time frame.”

Building on the DTE Fermi 2 vision, DevonWay went from concept to production in just 32 business days, meeting DTE’s aggressive schedule. The system is also meeting the impressive pace and awareness that Conner aimed to achieve.

DevonWay is now offering Safety Recognition & Rewards as an extension to ObservationWay. Based on the functionality in production at Fermi 2, Safety Recognition & Rewards reinforces the positive and, unlike generic rewards programs that are part of HR systems, encourages positive safety behaviors specifically tied to INPO and other nuclear safety principles.

Discussing the offering, Robert W. Felton, DevonWay President and CEO, said: “Our innovative solutions support plants in their ongoing efforts to continuously improve. With the Safety Recognition & Rewards extension to ObservationWay, they can promote, recognize, and reward exemplary behaviors and questioning attitudes that contribute to a healthy nuclear safety culture.”
